Lumia Software Recovery Tool is an application that can be used to recover phones that are bricked (a non-recoverable state) or the ones that are outdated and require additional firmware flashing.
You have to visit Nokia Care center in your city (if there is one), a local phone service shop or contact the carrier's support center if the phone is under contract.
Can you please confirm whether Lumia Software Recovery Tool is also effective for HTC 8s or otherwise? While updating it from Windows 8 to 8.1 it got stuck in Airplane Mode and I was unable to fix the problem even by hard reset. Now it does not wake up, screen is in complete black, but the phone heats up as if it is technically working. When plugged into the socket the notification light blinks for 70 to 80 times, indicating low battery signals, and then disappears automatically. The phone starts heating up as if the battery is charging but nothing happens. If there is any solution, then please let me know.

Yes, the application can be used to troubleshoot your phone. I had a Windows-based mobile phone and was able to restore it to factory condition using this application. There is an option that can be used when the phone doesn't even boot.
You can either use Lumia Software Recovery tool, or browse the Microsoft's page to download the Windows Device Recovery tool.
Download the application, install it, click the option that says "The phone doesn't turn on" and follow the instructions and your phone should be revived.
